Job description: One of our leading online bookmakers with a long history of changing the landscape of the sports betting and gaming industry through its integrity, high level of customer satisfaction, and revered risk management are looking to expand their legal team with a Regulatory Counsel with 2-5 years of total legal experience.
The role will serve to support their drive in the regulated B2C and B2B markets and to contribute to their efforts to enter new markets and launch new products. This role sits at the exciting juncture of tech/product counsel and regulatory affairs and will directly impact their efforts to expand and improve the Company’s offerings.
This position will work with a fantastic team of legal, regulatory, compliance, licensing and technology professionals striving to further their efforts to operate compliant wagering products in its regulated markets.
The role reports to the Head of Legal and Regulatory Affairs.
  • Provide regulatory counsel to the business to ensure ongoing compliance with existing laws and regulations in those markets in which the company currently operates
  • Provide regulatory counsel to assist the company’s efforts to launch into new markets
  • Assist in efforts to obtain regulatory approval for new product features in existing and new
  • Provide product counsel to product and technology teams
  • Liaise with industry lobbyists and trade associations
  • Provide counsel as needed to wider Legal and Compliance team initiatives
  • Provide effective legal advice (on both a proactive and reactive basis), assistance and support and internal training at all levels across the business
  • Monitor advice given by external lawyers and ensuring it is appropriately disseminated to internal stakeholders
  • Provide legal advice and guidance (in conjunction with external lawyers) to management and other internal stakeholders
  • Reviewing a wide range of sources of information for new and proposed legal developments which impact relevant areas of responsibility
  • Raising new and emerging issues with the Head of Legal and Regulatory Affairs and the business as appropriate, including providing advice and comment in writing and/or in presentations/workshops
  • Assisting in internal and external audits and investigations; and any other tasks as it may be required from time to time.
  • Minimum three years' post qualification experience and licensed to practice law in a European jurisdiction and/or Curacao, and in good standing
  • Confident in working with others but also independently and uphold a high standard of work ethic, always ensuring to complete all assigned tasks accurately
  • Able to take ownership of projects and drive them to successful completion
  • Fluent English speaker. Additional language skills such as Swedish and Italian would be an
  • Able to advise internal customers confidently and effectively
  • Good negotiation and influencing skills
  • Ability to balance the commercial demands of the business against any legal and regulatory risks
  • Sound commercial judgement
  • Ability and willingness to work in a fast-paced environment and highly regulated industry under pressure while leading and empowering a progressive and dynamic in-house legal department.
*Note the candidate filling this role may be required by applicable law and/or regulation to personally file for gaming licensure in any jurisdiction in which the company pursues a sports betting and/or iGaming license. Candidates must be able and willing to undergo personal declarations on behalf of the company’s suitability requirements for gaming licensure and must maintain a level of personnel suitability sufficient for the company to obtain and maintain its gaming licenses in any jurisdiction.
